Why is it easier to lead a thousand than to push one?

This workshop will help your managers to learn what quality really is. It is this quality from both the standpoint of the management and workforce that defines the company’s position in the marketplace. This position is the responsibility of the management but must be bought into by the workforce or it will never come to fruition. According to W. Edwards Deming, (the man I consider to be the father of Total Quality Management), “Managers engage the workers in an ongoing honest discussion of both the cost and the quality of the work that is needed for the company to be successful. They not only listen but they also encourage their workers to give them any input that will improve quality and lower costs. They model the job so that the worker who is to do the job can see exactly what the manager expects. They eliminate inspectors and inspections. They teach the workers to evaluate their own work for quality with the understanding that they know a great deal, always more than anyone else, about both what high-quality work is and how to produce it economically. The manager continually teaches the workers that the essence of quality is constant improvement. To help them, he makes it clear that he believes his main job is as a facilitator, which means he is doing all he can to provide them with the best tools and workplace as well as a friendly, non coercive, non adversarial atmosphere in which to work.”

As you may surmise this is a far departure from the classical autocratic approach (boss) to managing workers that has historically prevailed in America. In this day of economic challenge it is the companies that are interested in Total Quality that will be the most successful both from the standpoint of providing quality products and services as well as maintaining quality jobs.

These sessions will be held in a wilderness setting where there will be no interference from external sources. The participants will gain both knowledge and experience in learning what psychology makes their workers tick and how to more effectively lead them. This will be directed towards a non-coercive, non-adversarial environment so that quality work will be accomplished and quality products and services will be the mantra of the company.

Your managers will gain experience in the skill development, problem solving, and implementation that will be required when they return to their workplace to facilitate what they have learned. They will participate in, lectures, small group discussions, and audio interactive exercises.
